One of life’s many pleasures is the smell of bacon cooking in the morning. Purchase bacon at a store near your Off Campus Rental at Ohio University. Come with us to discuss all that is our lovely friend, bacon.
Off Campus Rental Origins
We heard bacon originated in a local off campus rental. While others debate the veracity of that claim, let’s dive in. Bacon is a type of salt-cured pork usually from the pork belly or less fatty back cuts. The word bacon comes from an Old High German word meaning “buttock”,”ham” or “side of bacon”. Meat from other animals other than pig can be cut and cured like bacon. The prohibition of pork makes these variations commonplace in the Jewish and Muslim communities. Before refrigeration, meat had to be cured for long term preservation. Bacon comes either dry cured or wet cured. Dry curing happens when plain salt cures the meat. Wet curing occurs after injecting or soaking bacon with brine. Bacon compliments any meal. You can cook eggs and toast with your bacon for a delicious breakfast.
Preferences
Some people prefer their bacon to be chewy while others prefer their bacon to be crispy. Bacon can go well with a number of other foods. Putting bacon on a cheeseburger is a popular example of this. Bacon goes well with so many things. Some people even use bacon as a garnish in their Bloody Mary. Cooking bacon is safe to do in your home. Just be sure to steer clear of the hot grease when cooking it. It is important that if there is a grease fire that results from cooking bacon to not try and put the fire out with water. This could severely injure you and damage your off campus rental.
Canadian bacon is a lie. They call it bacon but it is really just ham. Canadian back is lean cut from the eye of the pork loin and not a fatty cut of meat like regular bacon. Our neighbors to the North do not have as good of bacon as we have here in the United States. People in many off campus rentals often choose to cook bacon as their preferred breakfast meat. Sausage is another great breakfast meat, but I’ll save that for another time. Do your roommate a solid and prepare them a breakfast with bacon at your off campus rental. They will thank you.
