Louisville is a city in Kentucky. It is the largest city in the state, named for King Louis XVI. Louis XVI has the distinction of having his head chopped off. Louisville was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark. It is one of the oldest cities West of the Appalachians and surprisingly, the nearby Ohio Falls is the only obstruction on the Ohio River. In Illinois it joins the Mississippi and goes all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico. It was the founding city of the Louisville Nashville Railroad, because the Louisville Metropolitan Area is the 46th largest nationally. Louisville, the home of boxer Muhammad Ali and it is also home to the Kentucky Derby. Comparatively speaking, Muhammad Ali, the greatest boxer of all time and is one of the best athletes of all time. Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. was Ali’s birth name. He changed his name after converting to Islam and he fought in several historic boxing matches. He famously fought Joe Frazier and Sonny Liston. Ali famously fought George Foreman in the “Rumble in the Jungle”, sadly, he passed away in 2016. Louisville has a professional soccer team, correspondingly the team’s name is Lou City. The largest annual fireworks display happens in Louisville, which goes off before the Kentucky Derby concurrently every year. Jack Harlow is from Louisville. He emphatically mentions the city in many of his songs. The Louisville Bats are a professional baseball team, affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds.
