The south side of Palmer Street begins with student housing and ends with a bowling alley. For some reason, students seem to avoid the bowling alley. We find Palmer Street near Court Street and near Ohio University. It’s also near the highway and east entrance to campus. Stewart Street provides a runway to Palmer that directs all people living on South and East Greens that way. So Palmer naturally eats up the crowds walking from the dorms in that area. PalmerPlace positioned itself between Palmer Street and Court Street. This extended the footprint of Palmer beyond the normal street plat. It also doubled the total number of residents of Good Rentals Athens Ohio on Palmer with just one building.
Social Atmosphere
Long ago before Pamerfest, the springtime party was called Spring Fest. It mostly took place in the location of the intramural fields and the Milliron Street apartments. That time in history supported the law of 18 year old adults drinking beer with 3.2 alcohol content or less. Ohio University sold beer to the students at those events in the past. When the drinking age changed, Spring Fest lost its status as a university event. This moved the party to the back yards of the Palmer Street and Hocking Street area. The addition of rental properties in those back yards of Palmer and Hocking pushed the party into the middle of Palmer Street. The addition of PalmerPlace Apartments solidified the status of Palmer Street as the social epicenter of Good Rentals Athens Ohio.
