The pages of history are filled with great people who have done great things for mankind. One of those great people happens to be Martin Luther King Jr. The battles he lead for civil rights forever occupy an important part of our past. A part that we seem to still be living through. In this blog about Ohio University and University Housing Off Campus, we will post a few of his quotes and also some other info.
MLK Mentions University Housing Off Campus?
He doesn’t talk about University Housing Off Campus specifically, but Dr. King certainly also speaks to housing issues with the quote below.
‘We are likely to find that the problems of housing and educations, instead of preceding the elimination of poverty, will themselves be affected in poverty is first abolished.’
Dr King neglects to mention housing in this quote, but touches on college instead.
‘Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.’
The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior
That’s a long name and title. Surely others may take up more space, but this one occupies the entire room. Dr King visited Athens, Ohio from December 27, 1959 until January 2, 1960. The picture you see here came from his visit during that time. It’s noteworthy to mention that he did not come to Athens because of an invitation from Ohio University or to talk about University Housing Off Campus. Rather, he came for the 18th Ecumenical Student Conference on the Christian World Mission when Ohio University hosted the conference in Athens. I’m certain if the university had a chance to do it over again they would choose differently.
